In the year 2015, Spectrum Committee considered three issues; study of mmWave propagation characteristics, developing methodology for calculation of 5G spectrum requirements, and analysis of traffic attributes of typical 5G services that were defined by 5G forum service committee.
The WRC 2015 approved Resolution 238 [COM6/20] (WRC-15) on the studies on frequencyrelated matters for the IMT identification including possible additional allocations to the mobile services on a primary basis in portion(s) of the frequency range between 24.25 and 86 GHz for the future development of IMT for 2020 and beyond. For the evaluation and development of IMT-2020 (5G) to operate in the frequency range between 24.25 and 86 GHz, there is a need for developing channel models for those bands which are not fully modelled by the existing channel models. As a Korean government 5G project, propagation characteristics and channel modeling study in the mmWave bands have been conducted in ETRI, since 2013. To explore the spatial-temporal characteristics of a wireless channel including the path loss, ETRI developed a wide band channel sounder and performed a field measurement campaign and collecting measured data by transmitting and receiving signals with a 500 MHz bandwidth at carrier frequencies of 28 and 38 GHz.
