차세대 사물인터넷에 대한 고찰
The role of Internet of Things (IoT) has been evolving from connectivity to intelligent and autonomous functions. The increase in the number of connected things and the volume of data has revealed the limit of cloud-based intelligent IoT. Meanwhile, the development of microprocessors for the IoT has enabled their intelligent decision making and reactions without the intervention of the cloud; this phase is referred to as the “autonomous IoT era.” However, intelligence is not the only function of the IoT. When a cyber physical system (CPS) is running on the cloud, the real-time synchronization between the real and virtual worlds cannot be guaranteed. If a CPS is running on the IoT, both the worlds can be synchronized closely enough for a zero- time gap, i.e., achieving the goals of autonomous IoT. ETRI implements intelligence into the role of IoT and collaborates their decision making and reactions without the intervention of humans. Then, we focus on the development of a new IoT computing paradigm that enables human-like discussions.

데이터 중심 초분산 자율 인프라 기술
Various hyper-intelligent and ultra-realistic data-driven services are being increasingly developed with the goal of achieving a hyper-connected intelligent society. To sustain this trend, our research focuses on the integration and optimization of data-driven applications from several aspects such as delivery, storage, execution, and sharing of data and software, beyond the limitations of the existing network infrastructure. In this paper, we present important research issues of data-centric hyper-distributed autonomous infrastructure technologies.

In the upcoming post-app era, real-time, intelligent and immersive services such as autonomous vehicles, virtual secretaries, virtual reality, and augmented reality are expected to dominate. However, there is a growing demand for new networking and computing infrastructure capabilities because existing physical connection-oriented networks and centralized cloud-based service environments have inherent limitations to effectively accommodate these services. To this end, research on intelligent edge network computing technology is underway to analyze the contextual situation of human and things and to configure the service environment on the network edge so that the application services can be performed optimally. In this article, we describe the technology issues for edge network intelligence and introduce related research trends.

초연결 지능화 인프라 보안기술 동향 - 5G 시대의 이동통신 보안 중심
Recently, competition among global mobile operators has focused on the commercialization of 5G for the first time. Apart from protecting the privacy of subscribers and the confidentiality and integrity of communication, protecting the network against various cyber attacks is also important to ensure that high-quality mobile services operate safely. In this study, we examine the security vulnerabilities with respect to mobile communication environments using previous and current LTEs. We also investigate whether existing vulnerabilities can be effectively protected and identify security issues that need to be considered in the approaching 5G environment.

한계 제로 네트워크: 한계 없는 네트워크를 위한 초연결 포토닉스 기술 동향
The prosperity of modern society is heavily depending on communication technology. Communication is now expanding its roles from personal convenience to social/industrial functioning. Photonics was first introduced to communication in long-distance transmission area since it provided wide bandwidth cost-effectively. However, nowadays, photonics is not only a harmonious collaborator with electronics, but has its own exclusive playgrounds in various parts of communication. Limit-zero network pursues a network that can provide abundant capacity and efficiency using very limited resources. Photonics is the most promising candidate to accomplish the goal. In this article, we review the current status and predict the future contributions of photonics to limit-zero network.

한계 없는 무선통신 실현을 위한 기술 동향
The capacity of wireless communications has been considered to be restricted by their fundamental limits, which were first formulated by Shannon in 1948. These limits are for the communication environment that is composed of a transmitter and receiver pair. However, there are usually more than one simultaneously communicating pairs in the environment. In such cases, the capacity is not known. Moreover, performance requirements have been diversified with the development of technology. We believe that wireless communication technologies will eventually progress toward limitless connections. Various wireless transmission and access technologies are introduced in order to overcome their limitations.

Quantum technology is undergoing a revolution. Theoretically, strange phenomena of quantum mechanics, such as superposition and entanglement, can enable high-performance computing, unconditionally secure communication, and high-precision sensing. Such theoretical possibilities have been examined in the last few decades. The goal now is to apply these quantum advantages to daily life. Europe, where quantum mechanics was born a 100 years ago, is struggling to be placed at the front of this quantum revolution. Thus, the European Commission has decided to invest 1 billion EUR over 10 years and has initiated the ramp-up phase with 20 projects in the fields of communication, simulation, sensing and metrology, computing, and fundamental science. This program, approved by the European Commission, is called the “Quantum Technology Flagship” program. Its first objective is to consolidate and expand European scientific leadership and excellence in quantum research. Its second objective is to kick-start a competitive European industry in quantum technology and develop future global industrial leaders. Its final objective is to make Europe a dynamic and attractive region for innovative and collaborative research and business in quantum technology. This program also trains next-generation quantum engineers to achieve a world-leading position in quantum technology. However, the most important principle of this program is to realize quantum technology and introduce it to the market. To this end, the program emphasizes that academic institutes and industries in Europe have to collaborate to research and develop quantum technology. They believe that without commercialization, no technology can be developed to its full potential. In this study, we review the strategy of the Quantum Europe Flagship program and the 20 projects of the ramp-up phase.

초분광 이미징 기술동향
Over the past 30 years, significant developments have been made in hyperspectral imaging (HSI) technologies that can provide end users with rich spectral, spatial, and temporal information. Owing to the advances in miniaturization, cost reduction, real-time processing, and analytical methods, HSI technologies have a wide range of applications from remote-sensing to healthcare, military, and the environment. In this study, we focus on the latest trends of HSI technologies, analytical methods, and their applications. In particular, improved machine learning techniques, such as deep learning, allows the full use of HSI technologies in classification, clustering, and spectral mixture algorithms. Finally, we describe the status of HSI technology development for skin diagnostics.

디지털 헬스케어 데이터 분석을 위한 머신 러닝 기술 활용 동향
Machine learning has been applied to medical imaging and has shown an excellent recognition rate. Recently, there has been much interest in preventive medicine. If data are accessible, machine learning packages can be used easily in digital healthcare fields. However, it is necessary to prepare the data in advance, and model evaluation and tuning are required to construct a reliable model. On average, these processes take more than 80% of the total effort required. In this study, we describe the basic concepts of machine learning, pre-processing and visualization of datasets, feature engineering for reliable models, model evaluation and tuning, and the latest trends in popular machine learning frameworks. Finally, we survey a explainable machine learning analysis tool and will discuss the future direction of machine learning.

지능형 치안 서비스 기술 동향
As society develops, the demand for safety and security services increases. Developed nations such as the United States use advanced technology to lower crime rate and promote intelligent security services. First, this article examines intelligent systems that are used for monitoring and detecting crimes and dangerous situations. Recently, we have been studying technologies that enable preemptive responses through prediction of crime and hazardous situations. In this paper, we examine the cases of security services based on a crime/risk prediction model and explain the structure and major technologies of an intelligent security system. In addition, we propose a direction for technological development for achieving future security services.

자율주행자동차 전장시스템을 위한 기능안전 프로세서 기술
Automotive electronics are complex and require high performance with an advanced driver assistant system (ADAS) and a functioning autonomous system. Thus, considering their complexity, the processor of the electronic control unit (ECU) requires a design that ensures high performance and reliability to ensure functional safety. This study discusses the technology used for developing a processor that can ensure functional safety of current automotive electronic systems.

제로레이팅 주요 사례 및 정책
In this article, I summarize the various academic documents and regulatory agency reports on the Zero-Rating, and describes the type classification, major cases, and policy trends of major countries. In the case of Korea, the lack of academic research and the policy making work are relatively late compared to the advanced countries, so I hope that this paper will be helpful for the development of domestic academic research and policy direction in the future.

OSS 활용 고려사항과 검증 방법
In this paper, we focus on the process of using open source software (OSS) and factors that should be considered when using project-based OSS. We also elaborate on how to avoid using OSS licenses in an OSS-based technology development process, why dual OSS licenses and security threats should be avoided, and the method of notification after use. In addition, the OSS license verification method and environment are described in the course of project development. In the verification method, the OSS license used for technology development in the course of project execution is validated in advance by the person who decides whether or not to use the OSS, and then additional verification using the tool after technology development. It is expected that this paper will be helpful for establishing the OSS usage consideration and the license verification procedure, and environment in the future.
